SuperQuilt Triple Layer 0.15 Roof Insulation System
SuperQuilt Triple Layer 0.15 Roof Insulation System
Full Insulation Solution to Achieve a 0.15 U-Value
Here at Ecohome Insulation we have created a SuperQuilt Triple Layer 0.15 Roof Insulation System for Pitched and Flat Roofs! Achieve building regulations without the need for Rigid Board Insulation. This complete package will save on time, cost as well as labour time.
SuperQuilt is the UK’s highest performing fully accredited multifoil insulation on the market. It’s fully accredited by BBA and also BDA for building control. This kit will also improve your EPC rating.
One of the main benefits of the Triple Layer system is that it’a a great space-saving option and can be installed with very slim rafters or joists. As little as 100mm! When SuperQuilt is fully taped and sealed with Thermaseal Foil Joining Tape, it will also work as a higher performing Vapour Control Layer, eliminating condensation and any future issues with dampness and mould.
Why do I need to meet a 0.15 U-value
It’s common to meet a 0.15 U-value for building control if you’re building an extension or refurbishing a Pitched or Flat Roof.
We do have other methods to hit a 0.15 U-value – view our informative blog HERE
What’s included in our SuperQuilt Triple Layer Insulation System?
- SuperQuilt 1.2m x 10m (Triple Layer)
- Thermaseal Foil Joining Tape – Adequate amount for each kit size
- Free Heavy Duty Staple Gun & 5,000 Staples (24m² kit or more)
To install our Triple Layer System we recommend recessing the first layer of SuperQuilt. The two extra layers of SuperQuilt are to be fitted taut below or above the rafters. It’s essential to have air cavities above and below each layer of SuperQuilt, as this allows the product to expand into the cavity and also allows it to reflect.
SuperQuilt Triple Layer 0.15 Roof System is available on our Online U-value Calculator. Our Free and Instant calculator will give you results in just 60 seconds! You are then able to pass the document onto building control for acceptance.
YBS SuperQuilt LABC Certificate is available at the following link – Click Here!
Please also note, the coverages are based on the physical roll dimensions – You may consider sizing up for any overlaps & recesses.

How to Install Three Layers of SuperQuilt Under Rafter
Flat Roof - How to install 3 Layers SuperQuilt.
How to install 3 layers of SuperQuilt – Pitched Roof
-
Measure and Cut SuperQuilt
Measure the roof space to calculate how much SuperQuilt is required. We recommend to roll and install horizontal on the roof rafters. You can then cut the length of SuperQuilt required for your first layer. Allow an extra 60mm per rafter for the first layer, due to the recess.
-
Install 1st SuperQuilt - Recessed
Start by fixing the first layer of SuperQuilt. We recommend the first layer to be recessed and stapled up into the rafters by 25mm-30mm. We recommend stapling the multifoil on both the sides of the rafters, and the fact of the rafters. Recessing in a nutshell is weaving the multifoil in and out of the rafters, whilst maintaining the product as a continuous layer. Ensure a 50mm overlap is applied.
-
Tape and seal first layer of SuperQuilt
Once the first recessed layer is fully stapled and fixed in place, you are now ready to seal up SuperQuilt, using Thermaseal Foil Joining Tape. Fully tape and seal this layer over the overlaps, and around perimeter. This ensures the product works as a high performance Vapour Control Layer, reducing condensation.
-
Install 2nd Layer of SuperQuilt - Taut
Next step is to install the 2nd out of the three layers of SuperQuilt. Nail this layer of SuperQuilt as a flat, taut, continuous layers under the rafters. We recommend nailing this layer, as stapling will be difficult as there will already be a layer of SuperQuilt wrapped around each rafter.
-
Tape and seal 2nd layer of SuperQuilt
Fully tape and seal SuperQuilt using Thermaseal Foil Joining Tape. Ensure it is sealed over the overlaps and around the perimeter.
-
Fix 1st set of battens
Screw battens over the top of the 2nd layer SuperQuilt at 400mm centres. We recommend either 38mm or 50mm depth battens, check your bespoke PDF U-value calculation for clarity.
-
Install 3rd Layer of SuperQuilt - Taut
Staple the third and final layer of SuperQuilt. Staple this as a flat, taut, continuous layer using 14mm staples.
-
Tape and seal 3rd layer of SuperQuilt
Fully tape and seal SuperQuilt using Thermaseal Foil Joining Tape. Ensure it is sealed over the overlaps and around the perimeter.
-
Screw final set of battens
Screw second and final set of battens over the top of the 3rd layer SuperQuilt at 400mm centres. We recommend 25mm deep battens for this section.
-
Finish with Plasterboard
Screw 12.5mm Standard Plasterboard over the final battens, and skim.
Do I need a vapour control layer?
No - SuperQuilt Insulation when taped and sealed acts as a vapour control layer so there is no need to order one separately.
Does this solution replace the requirement for PIR?
Yes - this three layer insulation kit achieves a 0.15 u value on both Pitched and Flat Roofs - which is in line with the current requirements for extensions and refurbishments.
Can we send a certificate for your building inspector?
