How to Achieve a 0.18 U-value using Multifoils
We understand that finding out the best solution for your roof can be a minefield.
If you’re in the UK, and if you are undergoing a refurbishment or extension roof project, commonly you will be given a 0.18 target U-value.
Achieving the U-value of 0.18 with Multifoils in a roof couldn’t be easier!

SuperQuilt and BreatherQuilt Insulation are fully LABC & BDA certified. LABC stands for Local Authority Building Control. This approval means all local councils must accept the products. They must however be installed in accordance with manufacturers recommendations.
We have a variety of methods to achieve a 0.18 U-value. Dependent on the access to your roof would determine the best build-up for your project.
If you have access to both sides of your roof (Internal and External) We advise the following two details;
Under Rafter & Over Rafter Detail

The main benefit of these two systems is no requirement for Rigid PIR Insulation. (Kingspan / Celotex)
If you are insulating only from the underside of the rafters. For example if you are not re-roofing. We advise the following details;
Under Rafter only Details
- 1 Layer SuperQuilt & 65mm PIR Insulation (0.022)
- 2 Layers SuperQuilt & 32.5mm Insulated Plasterboard
- 1 Layer SuperQuilt & 140mm Mineral Wool (0.044)
- All above based on 600mm Centres and Breather Membrane
If you are re-roofing on your project, and the plasterboard is remaining installed, we advise the following details;
Over Rafter only Details
- 1 Layer BreatherQuilt & 100mm PIR Insulation (0.022)
- Triple Layer System (All External) – Product Link
- Both above based on 600mm centers & standard existing plasterboard.
