How to Combat Draughty Floorboards

How to Combat Draughty Floorboards

How to combat draughty floorboards during these long cold winters. In the UK has become commonplace, with the freezing temperatures stretching into February and beyond extending the chill as we saw with the “beast from the east” a few winters ago. It’s one thing to experience freezing temperatures. When you also have to contend with draughts, things can rapidly turn nasty. You’re not alone if you’re weary of having to pay hefty energy bills as soon as the cold weather arrives. With draughts bringing in a fresh blast of chilly air. To help you to combat the problem of cold through draughty floorboards we have come up with THE ultimate solution…

<< Our EcoTec FloorFoam Insulation Kit >>

A minor draught here and there might not be a big deal. Significant draughts can cause even warm homes to seem very cold, and draughty floorboards in particular can cause even worse problems; high fuel bills being at the top of the list.

As with most issues that concern heat retention and property warmth, the answer lies in insulation. However, many people are swayed from draught-proofing their homes because they gave been led to believe that using insulation or carrying out any kind of draught-proofing is likely to increase the risk of creating damp and condensation. There is a small element of truth in this argument but it is more related to people confusing draughts and draught proofing with basic controlled heating and ventilation practices.

All you need to know about the EcoTec FloorFoam Insulation Kit

Did you know… Around 15% of energy can be lost through the draughty floorboards! But we have a simple and easy way to install a solution for both wooden and concrete floors. The EcoTec Floor-Foam Insulation Kit is designed for under carpet underlay, wooden floor, engineered flooring, laminate, and vinyl floors. Which will prevent cold from permeating up from the original wood or concrete floor below.

If you do not have access to the underside of your Floor or don’t want to remove floor boards then EcoTec Floor-foam is the solution for you. EcoTec FloorFoam prevents cold air from penetrating rooms through concrete and timber floors. It also helps prevent condensation and drafts while helping dampen any sound. Floorfoam is made from 4mm of high-density polyester foam with a Highly Reflective True Aluminium Foil on either side.

Floor-foam can be used on ground floors, upper floors, above unheated spaces such as garages. Most imortantly in rooms where rising cold air kills home energy efficiency. Fitting Floorfoam insulation is simple by laying it directly onto the timber or concrete floor. Ensure the edges are together and seal joints and the perimeter with our 75mm Thermaseal True Aluminium Foil Joining Tape. You can then lay your Laminate floor, Wood, Underlay, and Carpets in the normal way as recommended by the manufacturers.

Installation

If installing Vinyl Flooring we would recommend using a thin plyboard above the FloorFoam to give the Vinyl Floor a rigid surface to sit on. Floor-Foam is supplied in easy-to-handle 1.2m x 25m rolls covering 30 Square Metres. It is supplied with a roll of ThermaSeal Foil Joining Tape 75mm x 50m.

Reviews for our Floor-Foam Installation Kit

As you can see from this recent five-star Trust Pilot review from a very satisfied customer, the EcoTec Floor-Foam Insulation kit is an easy-to-use and flexible solution to ensuring those draughty floorboards cause no more problems:

“This insulation was brought to go on the floor of the bedroom that was above a double garage as insulation in the floor wasn’t that good. We had to take the carpet up and the underlay and the grips so that we could lay this right up to the skirting and tape around the edges and the joins. we then put back the gripper then underlay and relayed the carpet. This product has made a big difference to the bedroom as it’s been reflecting the cold from below back down and reflecting the heat into the room I would recommend this if you have a similar problem. This solution was an easier one than having to do more of a major alteration to the floor underneath the bedroom.” –  Luckett, 17 October 2022
