This step-by-step guide will show you the easiest method to insulate above your timber floor using EcoTec FloorFoam Insulation.
EcoTec FloorFoam Insulation is a thin, flexible, dense 4mm foam membrane with true aluminium foil on either side.
FloorFoam is extremely simple to install. It will help retain heat, add a thermal barrier, and significantly reduce draught and moisture.
If installing EcoTec FloorFoam over a concrete floor, please see the how-to guide here.
Ecohome-Insulation are the leading UK & European distributor of Multifoil Insulation products. We offer free next working day delivery to the UK Mainland (on all orders placed before 2pm over £100 + VAT).
Roll Out and Cut FloorFoam

Roll out EcoTec FloorFoam either horizontally or vertically on the timber floor, then cut it to the desired length.
We recommend cutting FloorFoam with a cutting knife or multifoil scissors, available in the Multifoil Fitting Kit.
Stapling

Staple EcoTec FloorFoam onto your timber floor at around 300mm intervals, ensuring it is butt jointed together on both horizontal and vertical sections.
Taping and Sealing
Fully tape and seal around the perimeter and butt joints using ThermaSeal Foil Joining Tape, provided free of charge in the kit.
Taping and sealing ensures no draught or moisture can rise up through the floor.
Install Desired Flooring
Once the timber floor is fully covered with FloorFoam Insulation, you can install your desired flooring. Laminate or wood floors can be installed directly on top of FloorFoam.
If carpet is installed, an underlay is advised prior to the carpet. If vinyl or lino is being used, we advise using plywood over the top of the FloorFoam.
