This step-by-step guide explains how to insulate a shed, summerhouse or garden building using our simple and cost-effective EcoTec Shed Insulation Kit.
The kit includes EcoTec Insulation, a thin, flexible 4mm reflective membrane with true aluminium foil on both sides, helping reflect up to 95% of radiant heat.
Quick and easy to install, the EcoTec Shed Insulation Kit helps retain warmth in winter and reflect excess heat in summer. When fully taped and sealed, it also acts as an effective vapour control layer, helping reduce condensation and moisture.
Staple to Studs and Rafters

Roll out the EcoTec Insulation to the required length and trim any excess using the knife provided. Pull the insulation taut and staple it across the timber studs, creating an air gap between the insulation and the wall.
If your timber studs are 38mm deep or more, recess the insulation halfway into the studwork. This removes the need to install secondary battens before fitting the internal board.
Overlapping and Taping

Overlap the insulation by 50mm on both horizontal and vertical joints. Ensure all overlaps and the perimeter are fully taped and sealed using ThermaSeal Foil Joining Tape provided in the kit.
When fully taped and sealed, the product also works as a high-performance vapour control layer, eliminating any risk of condensation.
Installing Counter Battens

Fix timber battens at least 19mm deep directly over the insulation, spaced at 400mm centres. This creates an air cavity between the insulation and the internal boarding.
If you are recessing the material part way into the studwork, this step is not required.
Installing Internal Boarding

Finally, install your chosen internal boarding. Plywood is the most popular option, but OSB or plasterboard can also be used if required.
A thicker OSB board may be required if you plan to fix shelving or other heavy items to the walls.
