How-To Guide
How to Install Foil-Tec on Walls
Difficulty: Easy • 5 steps
Materials
Ecohome Insulation have provided a how-to guide to demonstrate the correct way to install Foil-Tec Single and Double, in both cavity wall and timber frame wall applications.
Foil-Tec is an insulating vapour control layer, under 1mm thick. It provides thermal performance without taking up any space.
Our Foil-Tec provides vapour resistance while also supporting the thermal performance and overall strength of the property. It is superior to conventional vapour control layers, as it also reflects heat back into the building.
Timber Frame

Apply the Foil-Tec to the stud. You can install it either vertically or horizontally, depending on the wall height. Ensure it is pulled tight prior to stapling.
You want to ensure the foil side (if Single) is facing the adjacent air space.
Tape and Seal

Tape and seal all of the perimeters and overlaps with ThermaSeal Foil Joining Tape.
Fix Counter Battens
If you do not have a cavity between the studs, counter batten with either 25mm by 38mm battens.
Ensure the battens are installed around the perimeter of doors and windows, and at 400mm centres.
Plasterboard
Following the manufacturer's fixing instructions, plasterboard can be fixed to the battens.
Foil-Tec on Cavity Walls
Screw directly into the wall behind. If using Foil-Tec Single, the foil side of the material should face the adjacent air space. All overlaps and perimeters must be taped and sealed using ThermaSeal Foil Joining Tape.
Counter batten and plasterboard in the same way you would for your timber wall application.
