How-To Guide
How to Install Foil-Tec Single (Floor Installation)
Difficulty: Easy • 6 steps
Here we will demonstrate how to insulate your floor with Foil-Tec Single.
This is a highly effective vapour control membrane that also provides thermal benefits — an insulating vapour control membrane, bringing dual benefits.
Why not benefit from a highly reflective vapour control barrier, as opposed to just a conventional vapour control layer? This can be used independently on the floor to improve heat retention in your home, while protecting it from condensation.
Roll the Foil-Tec Single Out

Roll the Foil-Tec Single out over the joists, overlapping each layer by 100mm.
You do not need to tape the overlaps — these act as a vent to allow moisture to dissipate.
Install Saddle Clips

To get optimum performance from the product, you need an air cavity on either side of the Foil-Tec Single. Place the saddle clips over the insulation and the joists — this provides an air cavity of 50mm. The saddle clips can be screwed or nailed into place.
Ideally, use 4 saddle clips per square metre of insulation.
Alternatively, Staple It Into Place

Although the saddle clips are the best way to achieve a consistent air cavity and speed up installation, you can instead staple the Foil-Tec Single if needed. Staple to the side of the joists at every 20cm interval.
Cover Up to the Wall

The Foil-Tec insulation must be brought up to the wall, behind the skirting board.
We advise it goes up the wall by 75mm.
Tape and Seal

Tape and seal all around the perimeter, leaving the overlaps between each join untaped.
Fit Flooring

You can then install your flooring, with screws at 20cm centres, 37mm into the joists.
