How-To Guide

How To Use Multi Purpose EcoTec Bubble Insulation

Difficulty: Easy • 4 steps

This step by step guide explains how to install EcoTec Bubble Insulation in roofs, walls and timber floors.

EcoTec Bubble Insulation is a lightweight 4mm reflective insulation made from an air bubble membrane with true aluminium foil on both sides. Its thin and flexible design makes it easy to cut and install in areas where space is limited, including lofts, pitched roofs, walls, sheds, summerhouses and suspended timber floors.

For the best thermal performance, EcoTec Bubble Insulation should be installed with an air cavity adjacent to the reflective foil. When fully taped and sealed, it can also create an effective vapour control layer to help manage moisture and condensation.

Measure and Cut the EcoTec Bubble Insulation

Measure the area you are insulating before rolling out the EcoTec Bubble Insulation and cutting it to the required length.

EcoTec Bubble Insulation is lightweight and flexible, so it can easily be cut using Multifoil Insulation Scissors or a sharp knife.

Allow enough material for a 50mm overlap where two sections of insulation meet.

Position the Insulation

Once correctly positioned, staple the EcoTec Bubble Insulation securely to the timber rafters, studs, joists or battens.

Fix the insulation approximately every 300mm using 14mm staples, keeping the material reasonably taut as you work across the area.

Continue installing each section until the entire roof, wall or floor area is covered.

Tape and Seal the Insulation

Fully tape and seal the 50mm overlaps using ThermaSeal Foil Joining Tape.

The perimeter should also be carefully sealed around walls, timbers and other junctions to create a continuous layer.

Any cuts or penetrations through the insulation should also be sealed using foil tape.

When EcoTec Bubble Insulation is fully taped and sealed, it can act as an effective vapour control layer, helping reduce the passage of moisture through the construction.

Install Counter Battens and Internal Finish

If you are covering the EcoTec Bubble Insulation with plasterboard, timber cladding or another internal finish, install 25mm counter battens over the insulation.

Fix the battens securely through the EcoTec Bubble Insulation and into the timber structure behind. This creates an additional air cavity while also providing a secure fixing point for your internal finish.

Your plasterboard, cladding or chosen finish can then be fixed directly to the counter battens.
