What is Multifoil Insulation?

Multifoil Insulation has existed for many years, but recent developments have taken this technology to a whole new level. Multifoil insulation utilises a combination of several layers of reflective foil with low-emissivity surfaces, and insulating core materials. This unique design forms a highly efficient shield against the transfer of heat through radiation, conduction, and convection. For a long time, builders and homeowners have relied on traditional insulation materials such as fibreglass and mineral wool. However, these materials are often insufficient in terms of performance, ease of installation, and long-term durability. To overcome these limitations, multifoil insulation offers thin, lightweight, and highly efficient alternatives. With our EcoQuilt range, we have been a leader in the use of multifoil technology. The original EcoQuilt Expert, which was the first of its kind, gained popularity among both DIY enthusists and professional builders due to its exceptional thermal capabilities and easy-to-use design. EcoQuilt65 Technical Information

EcoQuilt65 features a remarkable 19-layer structure, with each layer thoughtfully crafted to enhance the overall thermal performance of the product. These layers consist of: Reinforced heavy-duty laminated foil outer layers - Reflective foil PET layers - Recycled loft quilt layers The complex layering system forms a strong shield against heat transfer, successfully trapping warmth during winter and reflecting heat away during summer.

Reflective Foil

EcoQuilt65's reflective foil layers are unlike regular aluminium sheets. We have created a foil that boasts improved reflectivity and durability. This advanved foil can reflect up to 95% of radiant heat, surpassing the performance of standard reflective materials.

Preventing Thermal Bridging

EcoQuilt65 has a significant benefit of reducing cold bridging, which refers to the movement of heat through materiasl that are more conductive than the insulation surrounding them. The multifoil layers of this product are continuous, creating a seamless thermal barrier that minimises heat loss through structural elements such as studs, joists, and others. Additionally, the loft quilt layers made from recycled materials work together with the foil to slow down heat transfer through conduction.

Moisture Management

Efficient insulation is responsible for controlling both heat and moisture. Once properly sealed and secured with Thermaseal Foil Joining Tape, it forms a Vapour Control Layer (VCL) that limits the passage of moisture through the structure, thereby minimising condensation and moisture, protecting the insulation and building from water damage, and maintaining a dry and damp free building.
